Stainless-steel cookware is considered the best high-end cookware. The only disadvantage is that heating of the base can be very fast, even though it is thick, hence you have to keep a close look at the pan while you saute.

Don’t use anything even related to steel wool on stainless; all it does is scratch. You can try a paste of water and cream of tartar. Baking soda has little effect on stainless.

The best solution is get a can of Barkeeper’s Friend. It’s a powdered cleanser that does wonders on metal, especially stainless steel. It’s gentle enough to be used on a ceramic cook top but still tough enough to clean burned on things off metal. Sold in a lot of grocery and discount stores; cheap too! Made from rhubarb leaves and not full of a lot of nasty chemicals!

Dampen the bowl with some water. Take a sponge and smear the bowl really well with the cleanser. Walk away for about 10 minutes. Come back and give it a good scrubbing. Wash and rinse to remove the residue. This will take stains out and might help with some small scratches. Large, deep scratches are probably there to stay.

Your only other option is to have it professionally “polished” which will involve some aggressive buffing with abrasives and will ultimately cost you way more than the bowl is worth IF you can find someone capable of doing it.
